Comprised of six prefectures (Aomori, Akita, Iwate, Yamagata, Miyagi, and Fukushima), the region is surrounded by the sea and mountains, and is rich in nature, with changes in the four seasons.
It is also easily accessible from central Tokyo by the Shinkansen bullet train.
